Liverpool Marathon: Update

Talks for a Liverpool marathon are at a standstill as the council await decisions to be made on staging the event.

As published on the front of “Snapshot” this week, talks were ready to be discussed at last Fridays (1 October) Cabinet meeting.

It didn’t, however, go to the Cabinet for technical reasons surrounding the report, and talks for the marathon are at a standstill as the council await decisions to be made.

“We are at the starting line, and are just waiting for the gun to go off,” explains Mike Doran from Liverpool City Council.

“The ball is in the court of the preferred bidder, Limelight Sports. They operate the marathon on behalf of the city who employ them to run it.”

“We are expecting to hear something back by the end of the week on how these issues are doing to be resolved.”

Members from Chester council arrived to the meeting on Friday to talk to the cabinet about re-scheduling the date.

“We have been in dialogue with Chester Council since May, so it is not an issue,” said Mr Doran.

“It is merely a coincidence that these dates have been set for the same date.”

This seems a similar circumstance to last year where Liverpool’s Triathlon was for the same date as the Diva Triathlon in Chester. In the end, Chester moved its date to avoid the clash.

Limelight Sports is the company behind the creative delivery of many of the UK’s highest profile, mass participation sports events and grassroots development programmes.
